The Inspiration Behind Tokyo Rolls

While analysing the spending patterns of one of our group accounts, we discovered they were using 500,000 J Cloths annually—primarily to line gastro trays for sushi and wrap herbs. However, J Cloths were never designed for these uses, and the environmental impact was alarming, as they take approximately 500 years to break down in landfill.

A Smarter Alternative

Determined to find a better solution, we explored various materials and identified Airlaid Paper as the ideal alternative. After extensive trials, we developed it into convenient 50cm x 30cm perforated rolls, designed to perfectly fit a gastro tray. The result? A product that is more efficient, more hygienic, and significantly more cost-effective than traditional J Cloths.

The Impact

Since launching, Tokyo Rolls have prevented over 10 million J Cloths from ending up in landfill, making them one of our most widely adopted innovations. The majority of our clients have already made the switch, benefiting from both cost savings and improved sustainability. Since the launch of Tokyo Rolls many other supplier have tried to emulate the product, without success, it is not as absorbent, does not fit a gastro tray and is much more expensive, there is only one Tokyo Roll and it is only available from Cleaner Products
